Advocacy Experience
We take seriously our responsibility as citizens to engage and shape our country’s politics. Despite being a new player in this game, EWB has achieved impressive advocacy successes over the past few years.
We were the first voice urging the government to untie aid back in 2004, and members spent over three years working to increase Canada’s aid effectiveness and accountability by building support for Bill C-293.
With the help of our wide and effective grassroots network of informed members mobilizing the public, engaging with MPs, and initiating meetings with key bureaucrats and high-level decision-makers Canada untied aid in September 2008 and Bill C-293 was passed last year.
Building on these successes we will focus on three main priorities—improving our capacity to advocate by building essential skills, engaging local MPs in development issues, and interacting with decision-makers to address specific policies and proposals.
